A Newly Discovered Photo of the Corner Stone Ceremony For the Duncan Masonic Temple, 15 June 1912
A local Facebook group, You Know You’re From Duncan When…, has brought to our attention a photo of the Corner Stone ceremony for the Duncan Masonic Temple on 15 June 1912.
Temple Lodge No. 33 has another photo of this event but our Lodge Historian had not seen this photo (shown below) prior to today. We have added the photo to our webpage on the Duncan Masonic Temple.

Featured Deceased Vancouver Island Freemason For August 2017 – Alexander Roland Milne (died 1904, aged 65)
Each month, as part of our Vancouver Island Masonic History Project, we feature a deceased Vancouver Island Freemason as a way of highlighting Masonic heritage and the contributions Freemasons have made to Vancouver Island.
Our featured deceased Vancouver Island Freemason for August 2017 is Alexander Roland Milne (died 1904, aged 65), a member of Vancouver & Quadra Lodge No. 2 who also served as Grand Master of B.C. in 1887-1888.

The Milne Building on Johnson Street in downtown Victoria was built for Alexander Roland Milne by architect John Teague, who was also a Freemason.

Alexander Roland Milne is buried in Ross Bay Cemetery, Victoria, B.C.

Featured Deceased Member of Temple Lodge No. 33 For August 2017 – Alexander Chalmers Aitken (1868-1923)
Each month Temple Lodge No. 33 features one of our Deceased Brethren as a way of highlighting Masonic heritage and the contributions our members have made to Duncan and the Cowichan Valley.
Our Featured Deceased Member of Temple Lodge No. 33 for August 2017 is Alexander Chalmers Aitken (1868-1923), a farmer who served several terms as Reeve of North Cowichan. Alex Aitken Elementary School is named for him.

Cowichan Valley Shrine Club Presents Certificates of Appreciation to Cowichan Collision and Mark’s Instant Sign Shop
On 26 July 2017, the Cowichan Valley Shrine Club presented Certificates of Appreciation to Cowichan Collision, 5194 Mearns Road, and Mark’s Instant Sign Shop, 750 Jubilee Street, two local businesses which provided their services, free of charge, for the Cowichan Valley Shrine Club‘s antique fire truck, which is used in Gizeh Shrine fund raising for Shriners Hospital For Children.
Cowichan Collision painted the fire truck while Mark’s Instant Sign Shop provided the new decals on the fire truck.


Featured Deceased Vancouver Island Freemason for July 2017 – Edgar Crow Baker (1845-1920)
As part of our Vancouver Island Masonic History Project we have started a monthly feature highlighting a deceased Vancouver Island Freemason who has played a role in Vancouver Island history.
This is our fourth such post. Our Featured Deceased Vancouver Island Freemason for July 2017 is Edgar Crow Baker, (1845-1920) Past Grand Master of B.C. Among his many other accomplishments he set up the first telephone service in Victoria in partnership with Robert Burns McMicking, our Featured Deceased Vancouver Island Freemason for June 2017.

Each month Temple Lodge No. 33 features one of our Deceased Brethren as a way of highlighting the contributions our members have made to Duncan and the Cowichan Valley.
Our Featured Deceased Brother for July 2017 is George Henry Savage (1887-1959), who was Worshipful Master of Temple Lodge No. 33 in 1923 and served as Mayor of Duncan between 1943-1946.

The next regular meeting of Temple Lodge, No.33 will be on 13 June 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at the Duncan Masonic Temple. All Visiting Brethren are very welcome to attend.

James Grieg is buried in St. Peter’s Quamichan Anglican Cemetery.
