Featured Deceased Member of Temple Lodge No. 33 For October 2017 – Thomas Anthony Wood (1857-1945)

Each month Temple Lodge No. 33 features a deceased Brother of the Lodge as a way of highlighting the contributions Freemasons have made to Duncan and the surrounding Cowichan Valley.

Our Featured Deceased member of Temple Lodge No. 33 for October 2017 is Thomas Anthony Wood (1857-1945), a farmer and Reeve of North Cowichan from 1896-1899.

Thomas Anthony Wood was also first president of the Duncan Board of Trade, now the Duncan Chamber of Commerce, being elected to that position in 1909.

Featured Deceased Member of Temple Lodge No. 33 For August 2017 – Alexander Chalmers Aitken (1868-1923)

Each month Temple Lodge No. 33 features one of our Deceased Brethren as a way of highlighting Masonic heritage and the contributions our members have made to Duncan and the Cowichan Valley.

Our Featured Deceased Member of Temple Lodge No. 33 for August 2017 is Alexander Chalmers Aitken (1868-1923), a farmer who served several terms as Reeve of North Cowichan. Alex Aitken Elementary School is named for him.

Temple Lodge, No. 33 Members as Reeves of North Cowichan

The City of Duncan was created in 1912 on land that was formerly part of the Municipality of North Cowichan.

Before the incorporation of the City of Duncan, the following members of Temple Lodge, No.33 served as Reeve of North Cowichan (note: the title “Reeve” was changed to “Mayor” in 1970] and as members of North Cowichan Council.
