Dr. Watson Dykes (died 1952) moved to Duncan from Nanaimo in 1904 and became the local physician in Duncan and the surrounding area.

In his early days in Duncan, Dr. Dykes used a horse and buggy to make house calls on patients. He stabled his horses in a barn which is still standing behind 163 Kenneth Street in downtown Duncan. Dr. Dykes lived on Ingram Street but his house is no longer standing. We believe Dr. Dykes‘ house stood on the site now occupied by the Telus facility, which adjoins the lot on which this horse barn is still standing.
