At present the VIMHP knows nothing about Brother Hudson apart from the information on his tombstone. We will add more information about Brother Samuel Hudson as we uncover it.

The tombstone of Brother Samuel Hudson.

The inscription on the tombstone reads:

"ERECTED BY HIS MASONIC BRETHREN

In Memory of

Samuel Hudson

aged 37 years

Who died 3 May 1887

In [illegible] attempt to rescue Coal Miners

after the dreadful [illegible]

In No. 1 Shaft, Nanaimo"

This sounds like a very tragic, but interesting, piece of history that needs to be covered in detail on this page. The VIMHP will do more research to uncover what happened to Brother Samuel Hudson and the full details of the coal mining .
